Details

The celebrated Cawood Sword, named after its discovery location near Cawood Castle in England, is regarded as one of the finest and best-preserved examples of an 11th century Viking sword in existence. Preserved in the mud of the bed of the River Ouse for almost a millenium, the sword has now found a permanent home in the Yorkshire Museum, where it is a leading attraction. What is almost certainly a “sister” sword was unearthed in Norway in 1888, giving a valuable clue to the Cawood Sword’s origin.

Hanwei’s version of the sword replicates the lobated pommel and steeplydowncurved quillons of the hilt perfectly, while the wide-fullered blade is reproduced in 5160 high-carbon steel. The weight and balance provide for a very usable sword. No details of the original scabbard are known, but the styling of Hanwei’s leather-covered version is typical of the period.

Sword comes in light brown rather than dark as in picture

Perfectly executed historical copy. The sword lived up to expectations. Southern Swords probably the best online shop.

The quality for the price is superb! It's a beautiful sword, well balanced and a joy to wield. My only criticisms are that the pommel is slightly dented from where it was peened, but it's nothing substantial and easy to over look, it only loses a star in quality due to the finish of the edge, I wouldn't personally call it sharp, at least not how mine arrived, it wasn't the dullest blade but cutting paper should of been much easier with a supposedly sharp blade. Small criticisms aside, it's a purchase I definitely don't regret, a great sword for anyone looking for good quality on a budget.

Very very good quality sword!! As a collector I sometimes buy the cheaper swords as well as the more expensive, to me this sword is as good a quality as some of my more high end price Viking swords.

Very good quality sword. It's light, well handed. Cutting test made - cuts water bottles without any effort. Scabbard simple and nice looking. It didn't came black as in the picture but brown which in my opinion looks even better - it doesn't have modern look but keeps it very realistic.
