The coustille dagger dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. It was especially popular with French foot soldiers and some units even called themselves "coustilliers" (see Oakeshott, "The Archaeology of Weapons," p. 253). Especially in places where only aristocrats were allowed to carry swords, coustilles were widespread. A coustille is large enough to compete with a sword, but small enough to be concealed easily.

Whether you call it a short sword or long dagger, the double-edged, acutely pointed blade is suitable for both thrusting and cutting techniques. Our coustille has a fuller that makes it surprisingly lightweight. The wheel pommel gives this coustille good balance and prevents your hand from slipping off the slightly convex, leather-wrapped grip. Our coustille comes with a leather scabbard.
