This sword is from my private collection which has been in my possession for many years and is in excellent original condition.

Japanese Army Senior Officer's Kyu Gunto - WWII Vintage

This is a Japanese officer’s Kyu Gunto with a highly ornate back strap that indicates that this sword belonged to an officer above the rank of major but below the rank of general.
The hilt is very finely made with cherry blossom detail to the guard and, unusually, a wire bound leather grip.
There is a clip on the hilt to hold the blade within the scabbard, so with a push on the button the blade is released.
The blade appears to be hand forged, and the presence of a minuki to hold the blade in place shows that it can be disassembled.
Please see the images below of the tang of this sword as it has a makers mark.

The sword is in excellent condition with just a little wear to the leather of the grip. There is no pitting or corrosion to the blade which is in excellent condition. The steel scabbard is likewise in excellent condition and is free from any pitting.
