You might get the impression that the pirate's favorite edged weapon evolved from our naval saber, but that isn't entirely correct. This type of saber was probably developed by the British Navy, which was looking for a weapon as optimal for close combat as it was for countering attempts to board ship. The thick, single-edged blade of a slightly curved naval saber could easily slice through the ropes attached to a grappling hook and turn around to pierce an enemy at close quarters. The naval saber's use was straightforward and easy to learn. Naval sabers caught on and were soon used on ships throughout the world – including ships that flew the black flag.
Our naval sabre meets the requirements listed above and its very wide fuller also makes it extremely light. The hardwood grip is comfortable to hold and the brass basket is practical as well as visually pleasing.
This naval saber comes with a black leather scabbard featuring a mount and chape.
