Fencing in the Renaissance style plays a prominent part in historical re-enactment, combining the quickness of light blades with the structure and spirit of the duel. In addition to our Practical Swept Hilt and Cup-Hilt Rapiers we have a number of other weapons for the Renaissance fencer and these are presented here.
The Schlaeger Rapiers utilise a popular swept hilt, modified to accommodate our schlaeger blades in 37" (SH1099) and 43" (SH1098) lengths. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword.

Quality PriceAl GillFirst class service from Southern Swords. Ordered just before the weekend and it arrived on Monday morning very well packaged. Also liked the fact that when I placed the order the person who answered the phone actually knew what they were talking about - I didn't have to explain the different blade choices / difference between cup / swept hilt.
I'm basically an epeeist just taking my first steps in rapier so my (non-expert) comments are as follows:-
* Build quality of the hilt seems to be very solid.
* Grip and pommel nicely put together - feels as reliable as my PBT French grip epee
* Pleasantly surprised to find the point of balance only a couple of inches outside the hilt even with the 43" blade
Only other comment is that it would have been nice to get a rubber blunt along with the weapon.
Would definitely recommend these guys as a source of rapiers.
