Viking Long Axe - Antique Finish

Product Review (submitted on 17 July 2015):

Having received my axe very quickly I must say that I'm very pleased with it indeed. The oval haft gives good grip and control to the weapon, which is just light enough to use one handed with a shield, if held approximately half, or two thirds the way down the haft, although for good and fast control, a two handed grip is far superior. This axe has the twin virtue of on the one hand being an accurate reproduction Viking axe, although there are some differences in the way in which this one was forged as compared to an original, and on the other hand, not unlike the originals, can be used for chopping wood, the haft on this model being of an appropriate length. Cosmetically, I would say that the actual axe is superior in person than it appears in the photos of it, and I must admit that the simulated rust added to make it appear aged was a little disconcerting at first. My only criticism would be the lack of any wage in the top to help secure the head to the haft, however if used as a wall hanger this will not be necessary. As I intend to both train with this axe and use it for chopping wood I shall naturally be adding a wedge to the top, but as such wedges are readily available at any good hardware supplier, it is not so much a significant issue as a minor safety precaution.
