Bone Needle

Product Review (submitted on 18 July 2019):

I bought three needles so that I have a needle and two spares with which to make a 'hairy woollen cloak' following two exemplar fragments from the C10th AD found in the Coppergate excavations in York. The needles are a robust natural product slightly varying in length. Since a secondary role of these needles is as a part of the kit that I need to represent the man found in grave 9 at Vivallen, Härjedalen in Sweden, I needed them to fit into the needle, case based upon that grave, which I already own. One needle was already of a perfect length and beautifully sharp, two needed shortening and then re-profiling which means that I now own three needles good for slightly different jobs, which to my mind is no bad thing. Two of the needles have perfectly formed eyes, one showed evidence of the way that it had been drilled out which I was again able to re-profile to look like the historical examples. Overall I'm pleased, I have a big job to do and need big needles to do it with, which I now have. I also know that in time these needles will break, but these are large enough for me to re-make them when I have need, with the material that is left. So yes, I like these, 4 stars for quality reflects one out of the three needles I received having an eye that needed re-working to properly finish it.
