The remains of ancient artifacts that are preserved in the British Museum are the basis for this re-creation of a Roman pugio. Its shape and dimensions make it very similar to a Spartan short sword: leaf-shaped, double-edged blade with an acute point. However, ancient ergonomics went into the grip. It is shaped to fit comfortably in a warrior's hand. A Roman pugio was especially effective in close combat. Its scabbard is made of wood covered in leather with a brass mount and chape.
