I'm selling my Dirk which I bought about a year ago for a wedding.
Its not been used for anything more than cutting a ham at the after party.
Its a good clean item that has had the blade and its top front part sharpened to give a good sharp edge.
Fits well in it scabbard and has 3 fuller grooves down the blade.
The hardwood handle has a chevron carved pattern all around and a steel flat top with a riveted raised tang.
Overall Length:- 21"
Blade Length:- 14-7/8"
Blade Width:- 1-3/4"
Blade Thickness:- 3/16"
Steel:- 1055 High Carbon
This style of dirk is a direct descendant of the medieval ballock dagger.
The grip form began to change, probably sometime in the late 16th century, but soon developed a form that was purely Scottish. The blade was long and single-edged. Made so it can be use alone, with a shield and sword, or just with a basket-hilt claymore.
The hardwood handle is carved with a chevron like pattern copied from an original of the same time period.
For those with a serious interest in the Highlands, this is a must for any collection.
